University of Minnesota Local Case Competition  

Local Case Competition Date - March 8, 2014

Registration: 

Deadline: January 15, 2014 
*Registration is limited and granted on a first-come, first-serve basis.*

Participant Information:

Registered teams will receive a Case Competition Guidebook, which includes:

  • Rules and regulations
  • Roles for students and advisors
  • Team definitions
  • Judging criteria
  • Contact information for additional questions
  • Technical assistance for team development 

 

Local Competition Award Information:

  • 1st place (shared award) $3,000
  • 2nd place (shared award): $2,000
  • 3rd place (shared award): $1,000

Mandatory Local Case Competition Retreat - Saturday, January 25, 2014
 

*ALL registered University of Minnesota Twin Cities, Rochester, and Duluth students MUST attend.*

9:45am Case competition & Guidebook Overview

10:45am Root cause analysis presentation by Dr. Sandra Potthoff

University of Minnesota Local Case Competition - Saturday, March 8, 2014
Where: Moos 1-450
2014 Schedule: 

8:30am – Judge briefing
9:00am – Team A presentation
9:45 am – Team B presentation
10:30 am – Team C presentation
11:15 am – Team D presentation
12:00 am – Lunch break
12:30 pm – Team E presentation
1:15 pm – Team F presentation
2:00 pm – Team G presentation
2:45 pm – Team H presentation
3:30 pm – Results tallied
 

Each team is given 20 minutes to present and 10 minutes for questions from the judges.  The judges will be given roughly 5 minutes to discuss each presentation before the next group begins.

Local Competition Awards Banquet - Evening of March 8, 2014

Who does this include? ALL registered University of Minnesota health professional student teams who participated in the Local Case Competition.

National Case Competition 

National Case Competition Dates - April 11 and 12, 2014

National Competition Richard Norling Premier Scholarship Information:

  • 1st place (shared award): $7,500
  • 2nd place (shared award): $5,000
  • 3rd place (shared award): $2,500

 

Hotel Information:

Participants are encouraged to stay at the Commons Hotel, where a block of rooms will be held. When you call for reservations, state that you are a CLARION participant so you receive the discounted group rate.

2014 Rates:

$134.00 per night for two adults, with the cost increasing $20 for each additional adult (rooms can accommodate four adults).  Please make your room reservations with the Commons by March 15, 2014, to receive the discounted group rate.

National Case Competition Presentations - All day on Saturday, April 12, 2014
Teams conduct a root cause analysis and present their recommendations for system changes to a panel of interprofessional judges.  Each team is given 20 minutes to present and 10 minutes for questions from the judges.  The judges will be given roughly 5 minutes to discuss each presentation before the next group begins.
